Enameled Aluminum Strip

AWG Super Enamel Aluminum Magnet Wire Size Selection

AWG super enamel aluminum magnet wire is used when a buyer wants gauge-based sizing, light conductor weight and enamel insulation for motors, transformers, relays and general coil winding. The word "super enamel" should be translated into actual specification details: enamel type, thermal class, insulation build, outside diameter, resistance and winding test results.

AWG can be convenient for purchasing, but it can also create mistakes if the order does not include the diameter in millimeters. Aluminum has higher resistance than copper at the same diameter, so an AWG number copied from a copper design is not automatically correct. For a broader product reference, compare AWG SWG enameled aluminum wire.

Selection logic

Start with the finished coil. A small relay may need fine wire and easy terminal control. A transformer coil may need stronger thermal class and more insulation margin. A repair shop may prefer common AWG sizes with clear spool labels. A manufacturer should test the wire on the actual winding machine before bulk approval.

When comparing sizes, confirm bare conductor diameter, outside diameter after enamel, resistance tolerance, thermal class and spool weight. If the coil window is tight, the enamel build can change how many turns fit into the same space.

Application case

A buyer replacing copper wire in a low-current coil first selected the same AWG aluminum wire. The coil fit, but resistance was too high. The team moved to a larger aluminum size, kept the same enamel class and retested temperature rise. The final wire was not chosen by gauge name alone; it was approved by electrical performance and winding yield.

For a broader selection article, see round enameled aluminum wire selection guide. For a gauge-focused related page, 28 AWG enameled aluminium magnet wire is useful for fine-wire comparison.

FAQ

Is AWG aluminum equal to AWG copper?

No. The diameter reference can be similar, but conductivity and resistance are different.

What should be written in the order?

List AWG, millimeter diameter, enamel type, thermal class, spool size, test standard and application.

Can samples be tested first?

Yes. Sample winding and terminal tests are recommended before production purchase.
