Class 155 Polyester Aluminum Wire for Colombian Coil Production
Class 155 is one part of the wire specification
Class 155 polyester enameled aluminum wire is an aluminum winding conductor with a polyester based insulation construction and a declared thermal category. The designation does not establish the complete dimensions, film build or manufacturing compatibility of the product. Those details remain necessary for a coil purchase.
A Colombian delivery destination identifies the receiving program, not the wire technical grade. The factory needs a construction matched to its motor, transformer or other coil design. Supplier documents should support that actual construction rather than combine broad resin and temperature lists.
Begin with the component drawing and the reason for selecting the thermal category. A higher or lower number should not be chosen independently from the winding hot spot, required life and other insulating materials. The completed component remains the basis of engineering acceptance.
Clarify which polyester construction is offered
Polyester and modified polyester descriptions can be used inconsistently in commercial listings. Ask the supplier for the complete resin construction and the applicable product specification. Any overcoat or bonding layer should be stated separately.
Do not confuse polyester with polyesterimide or polyimide because their names share familiar elements. They describe different polymer families. An alternative can be feasible, but it needs a clear proposal and relevant evidence rather than an assumption of equivalence.
The distinctions in selecting the right imide enamel system help resolve related terminology. For this order, preserve the actual polyester based construction in the drawing and purchase schedule so future deliveries can be checked against it.
Read thermal evidence at the correct level
A wire thermal category supports endurance classification under its defined assessment. It is not a universal operating temperature permission for the complete coil or appliance. Bobbins, tapes, lead insulation and impregnation materials can introduce other limits.
Ask for the specification and evidence supporting the declared Class 155 construction. Short term heat exposure, heat shock and long term endurance address different properties. A supplier should explain which result supports which claim rather than present several temperatures without context.
The separation between thermal category and insulation build in Class F Grade 2 wire selection is relevant here. Class 155 does not tell the buyer whether the film is the appropriate thickness or chemistry for the actual manufacturing route.
Define conductor area and resistance
Specify bare diameter for round wire or bare width and thickness for a rectangular construction. The metal section and winding length establish resistance together with material and temperature. A nominal size should therefore be paired with its limits and measurement basis.
Aluminum should not replace copper at equal dimensions without review. The conductivity difference changes the area needed for a chosen resistance target. That can affect coil space, turns, heat removal and terminals. Engineering should establish the proposed aluminum design before the order is released.
| Order field | Information needed |
|---|---|
| Metal section | Bare dimensions and tolerance basis |
| Insulated envelope | Finished dimensional limits |
| Resistance | Reference temperature and length basis |
| Resin construction | Polyester system and any added layers |
| Thermal evidence | Applicable Class 155 support |
| Reel format | Compatibility with receiving equipment |
Allow space for insulation and assembly
The finished dimensions include the enamel and determine the space occupied by each turn. A bare conductor calculation cannot describe the complete winding envelope. Include other insulation and assembly allowances in the coil design.
Film build changes can affect winding fit even when the metal section is unchanged. Ask the supplier to identify the offered build and its dimensional limits. Do not use the word double coated as an automatic substitute for a defined grade or layer arrangement.
Verify representative coils after the operations that affect final size. Winding placement, curing and assembly can create differences from an ideal layout. The production trial should show that the selected construction can be manufactured consistently within the available space.
Qualify the enamel through the receiving factory process
The wire must survive payout, guide contact, winding and any forming operation. Use the intended machine and representative operating sequence. A short loose sample can support initial inspection but does not demonstrate stable production behavior.
Where impregnation is used, include the actual resin and cure conditions. Cleaning materials and terminal preparation can also affect the film. Record the sequence so a successful trial can be repeated and a later difference can be investigated.
- Confirm incoming construction and dimensions.
- Wind representative coils on the planned equipment.
- Apply the normal processing and assembly sequence.
- Evaluate the component against its acceptance requirements.
Inspect the demanding locations after processing, including bends and lead exits. This helps distinguish supplied film condition from damage introduced by tooling or an unsuitable process.
Approve aluminum connections separately from the thermal label
Class 155 enamel does not establish a reliable aluminum terminal. Surface oxide, stripping method and terminal materials affect the connection. The process needs to expose the intended contact area without unacceptable conductor damage and then form a stable electrical interface.
Use the actual component lead geometry and production tools. Access conditions and strain relief can influence the result. A connection made easily on a long loose specimen may not represent the joint beside a compact coil.
Evaluate relevant electrical and mechanical properties after the required conditioning. Keep the accepted process settings connected to the wire construction, especially if a future enamel build change affects stripping. Thermal classification and joint approval are related parts of the component design, but they are not interchangeable evidence.
Align delivery documentation with Colombian production needs
The receiving factory should know who manufactured the wire and which lot supplied each reel. Agree the label content, test documents and drawing revision needed for release. Transport and commercial records should be consistent with the physical shipment.
Local market or finished equipment obligations should be identified by the responsible importer and manufacturer. A general wire page cannot establish every requirement applying to a Colombian product. Ask suppliers for accurate scope rather than infer destination approval from a country name in a listing.
For repeat procurement, traceable aluminum wire supplier controls provides useful questions about responsibility and change notification. Keep those controls focused on the construction accepted by the receiving factory.
Compare offers without losing the approved construction
Ask each supplier to quote the same dimensional and insulation schedule. Record deviations explicitly. A lower price for another resin, build or reel format is not an equivalent offer until its effect has been reviewed.
Include usable length, production yield and terminal work in the commercial comparison. A price per kilogram does not capture the complete cost of producing accepted coils. The section and winding design can change the amount of material required for the same component function.
If the supplier proposes an improvement, identify the requirement it addresses and the evidence needed. Controlled changes can be useful, but they should not enter production merely because the new product shares a Class 155 label. Preserve the complete product identity through the review.
Questions about Class 155 polyester wire orders
Does Class 155 mean the whole coil can operate continuously at that temperature? The complete insulation system and component design need their own assessment. Wire category alone does not establish the allowable hot spot of every material. Review the duty, required life and supporting insulation together.
Can film build be selected from thermal class? Thermal category and build describe different characteristics. Select the film construction and dimensions against electrical stress, winding space and manufacturing requirements. Record both fields so the supplier cannot interpret one as permission to choose the other without review.
What makes a useful sample for a Colombian factory? A traceable reel should reproduce the proposed production construction and fit the receiving machine. It should provide enough length for representative coils, terminals and inspection specimens. Keep its documents and process settings with the acceptance results.
Keep receiving and qualification evidence complementary
Receiving inspection should confirm the delivered identity, package condition and agreed critical measurements. It does not necessarily repeat every endurance or compatibility assessment from qualification. Keep the original supporting reports available and connect them with the production construction so routine release rests on a clear technical basis.
If a coil trial reveals an issue, preserve specimens from the relevant stage. Damage found after winding can have a different cause from damage present on incoming wire. Record tooling condition, settings and material identity before changing the process. A focused investigation reduces the chance of replacing a suitable resin to compensate for an unrelated mechanical problem.
Retain the accepted sample or reference coil where practical. When a later reel behaves differently, compare its dimensions and construction with that reference using documented methods. The goal is to maintain the material that was actually approved, while allowing justified changes through a visible review route. This is particularly valuable where imported reels pass through several commercial parties before reaching the Colombian winding line.
Request a production ready material proposal
Send the component drawing, bare and finished dimensions, resistance basis and proposed polyester construction. Include the Class 155 evidence requirement, winding route and terminal method. Identify the receiving site and packaging constraints so the sample and commercial supply can be compared fairly.
Approve the wire through an accepted component trial and preserve the material schedule under revision control. This makes the Colombia supply program repeatable and keeps the thermal claim in its proper context. Request construction confirmation and representative trial material before committing a new wire to routine coil production.
